The finished figures then move into a Word report or a PowerPoint deck for the weekly meeting.
The two additional applications are what small and mid-sized businesses usually buy this edition for. An office manager can keep customers, orders or equipment inventories in an Access database with input forms and printable reports, rather than in a spreadsheet that several colleagues overwrite. Marketing staff use Publisher for price lists, event flyers and newsletters that need exact page layout.
The functions that make a practical difference
Excel 2019 introduced TEXTJOIN, CONCAT, IFS, SWITCH, MAXIFS and MINIFS, which replace long nested formulas with one readable expression and make shared workbooks easier to audit. Funnel and map charts visualise sales pipelines or regional results without add-ins. In PowerPoint, the Morph transition animates objects smoothly from one slide to the next, and Zoom lets a presenter jump directly to any section instead of clicking through the deck in order.
Word, Excel and PowerPoint accept scalable vector icons and 3D models that can be rotated on the page, which helps with technical documentation and product presentations. Word's Learning Tools adjust text spacing and page colour and can read a document aloud, a practical aid for proofreading. Access 2019 adds a Large Number data type for values beyond the standard integer range, as well as modern chart types for forms and reports.
Choosing the right edition
Office Home & Student 2019 contains only Word, Excel and PowerPoint and suits private users and students. Home & Business adds Outlook for small companies that mainly need email and calendars, while Standard adds Publisher to that set. Office Professional 2019 includes Access as well, which makes it a fit for users who need databases but no Skype for Business. Pro Plus covers all of these applications plus the Skype for Business client, so it suits businesses that want every desktop tool of this generation on one workstation. Visio and Project are separate products and are not part of any of these suites.
Practical limits worth knowing before you buy
Microsoft ended support for Office 2019 on 14 October 2025, so the applications no longer receive security updates or fixes from the manufacturer, which matters for anyone handling sensitive data. Functions introduced later, such as XLOOKUP, dynamic array formulas and Copilot, are not available in this edition. The Skype for Business client only connects to an on-premises Skype for Business Server, because Microsoft retired the online service in July 2021, and it does not replace Microsoft Teams. Buyers who depend on these capabilities should consider a newer version instead.

Can Office 2019 open files created with Microsoft 365?
Yes. Both use the same Open XML formats such as .docx, .xlsx and .pptx. Workbooks that rely on newer functions like XLOOKUP will open, but those formulas do not calculate in Excel 2019.
Is Microsoft Teams part of the package?
No. Teams is a separate Microsoft product and is not installed with this suite. The included communication client is Skype for Business, which requires a Skype for Business Server in your organisation.
